Sherrie Shepherd was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1958 and moved to
Arkansas in 1962. Shepherd attended the University of Arkansas at Little
Rock and graduated with a BA degree in Art. It was then that she decided
to pursue her dream as a full time artist.
Shepherd believes her paintings represent a journey through time and
collective consciousness. Her subject matter is primarily night scenes and
the interaction of people within their environment. Her canvases are
covered with warm lights and cool shadows which invite the viewer in for a
closer look. "I want the viewer to feel like they're part of the scene
which gives them the feeling that they’ve been there before.”
"Light and color are more beautiful when surrounded by the darkness of the
night." Shepherd says. “I’m interested in what the world looks like after
the sun goes down. My art is a simple expression of a moment in time. Take
a deep breath and enjoy my work.”
Shepherd is a full time artist and has been drawing and painting most of
her life. From 1986 – 1996 she drew a syndicated cartoon strip called
FRANCIE about a single mother. FRANCIE appeared in the United
States and abroad for ten years. Other cartoons by Shepherd have also
appeared in magazines such as: New Woman, Cosmopolitan, Medical Economics,
Complete Woman, Playboy, Ladies Home Journal, Ebony and Saturday Evening
Post. Her cartoons have been published in two books, Mothers and
Daughters and Playing By The Rules.
