Shelia
Cotton
As Sheila Cotton,
whose paintings are signed "Cotton", is a mid-career
artist working exclusively in oils on canvas. She is the
winner of the prestigious Greenshields Award and has been
featured in the important National Chautauqua Exhibition
of American Art in New York. Her paintings hang in over
30 museum and corporate collections.
A native of Arkansas, she has resided
in Canada and Florida for many years, only recently returning
to Little Rock to live and paint. She divides her time between
Arkansas and a winter home in Naples, Florida.
In the summer of 2006, she embarked
on an important new series of paintings inspired by a deeply-felt
kinship to her native state and its history. "Antique
Arkansas" depicts scenes and people from the artist's
collection of old postcards and photocards of Arkansas.
Beautifully rendered oils of ordinary
life - a girl in a swing, a logging camp, hunters and farmers
- distill on canvas the images from the past that still
move us and define us.
This artist's command of technique and
what critics have called her "sensual intellectualism"
culminate now in this unique and on-going series.
Gallery Central is proud to be the exclusive
dealer in the South for Sheila Cotton and the "Antique
Arkansas" series.
